Sculptures
Buddhist sculptures are religious artworks created based on canonical doctrines and ritual worship needs. Buddhist statues originated in ancient India and were introduced to China during the Eastern Han dynasty, sparking a sculpture movement across the country. The museum's collection includes sculptures from the Gandhara region during the Kushan Empire period and localized sculptures since the Northern Wei dynasty, with rich subjects including Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, disciples, apsaras, and dharma protectors. The compassionate expressions and exquisite craftsmanship contain historical depth while also serving as evidence of cultural integration.
