Pottery Figures

The history of pottery figurines dates back to the Eastern Zhou period, initially created as substitutes for human sacrifices. As people's understanding of the afterlife evolved, pottery figurines became common burial objects. Beyond their funerary cultural significance, they also hold artistic value. The museum's collection focuses on the Han and Tang dynasties when people followed the concept of "treating the dead as the living." The burial figurines expanded to include civil officials, warriors, guards, court ladies, farmers, performers, animals, and various architectural models, presenting realistic styles and demonstrating the remarkable artistic achievements of Chinese civilization while painting a vivid picture of ancient social life.
